MISSION
The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of Downtown Schenectady. Our mission is to promote Downtown Schenectady as a premier location for commerce, recreation and residence by enhancing, facilitating and supporting economic and cultural growth.
HISTORY
The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation, an arm of the Downtown Special Assessment District, was originally formed in 1977 as a parking district. In 2001, Downtown business leaders worked with the City to expand the functions of the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation to provide a broader focus on the revitalization of Downtown Schenectady.
FUNDING
The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation's funding is currently derived from three primary sources: property owners within the Downtown Special Assessment District pay an annual assessment above and beyond their property and school taxes; an annual operating grant from the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority; and fundraising through special events and grant funding.
